Described by critics as “a virtuoso with the most exquisite touch” (Freethought Today), “evocative and mystical” (New York Classical Music), and “a poet of the piano” (Piano Professional), Jarred Dunn has established himself as an artist of rare sensitivity and command.
His musicianship has been recognized through numerous academic and artistic distinctions, including First Prize and the Concerto Award at the 7th International Chopin Competition in Lithuania (2018) — a milestone that propelled his international career and led to performances across Europe and beyond. He is also a prize-winner of the 1st Jan Hoffmann International Competition in Kraków (2019), as well as the Rome Premio, Verona Zinetti, and Vitti International Competitions.
Alongside his vibrant concert career, Mr. Dunn has built a critically acclaimed recording portfolio, featuring albums of works by such composers as Fryderyk Chopin, Johannes Brahms, and Claude Debussy. He currently records for the ATMA Classique and Lexicon Classics labels.
Most recently, he recorded the complete Henryk Mikołaj Górecki piano solo and piano duo repertoire on Górecki’s World of the Piano (ATMA), joined by Anna Górecka. The release was hailed as “an important album of the highest artistic stature” (PanM 360) and “a landmark recording by two virtuosi” (LaScena Musicale). The album was chosen as a Finalist for Opus Prix Album of the Year award.
Jarred Dunn is a Yamaha Artist and Tonebase Artist.

Origins
From an early age, Jarred was captivated by the inner logic of music — harmony, form, and the architectures connecting sound, thought, and emotion.
What began as a childhood fascination with the works of Bach, Schubert, Liszt, and Ravel soon grew into a lifelong dedication to understanding music and teaching the piano. His insatiable curiosity for pedagogy was sparked by his early studies with Anna Dynarowska-Pacanowski, and later shaped by his mentorship as the last pupil of Jacob Lateiner (1928–2010). This passion inspired regular worldwide travel to study with pianists who inherited the great 19th- and early 20th-century musical traditions.
His eagerness to learn numerous philosophies of piano teaching led him to master classes with an extraordinary range of legendary artists, including Dmitri Alexeev, Edward Auer, Dmitri Bashkirov, Seymour Bernstein, Andrea Bonatta, Martin Canin, Janina Fialkowska, Leon Fleisher, Peter Frankl, Andreas Frölich, Leslie Howard, Jenő Jandó, Robert Levin, Robert McDonald, John O’Conor, Choong-mo Kang, Tobias Koch, Julian Martin, Émile Naoumoff, Andrzej Jasiński, Seymour Lipkin, Matti Raekallio, Zbigniew Raubo, Hartmut Sauer, Ilja Scheps, Wojciech Świtała, Balázs Szokolay, Tamás Ungár, and Nelita True.
Studies
Jarred Dunn’s career is marked by his dedication to artistic growth, shaped through years of study with distinguished mentors in North America and Europe.
His early training with Anna Dynarowska-Pacanowski preceded a full scholarship to the University of Toronto, where he graduated with the WO Forsyth Award (MusBacPerf). He continued his studies at Aspen Music Festival and The Juilliard School with legendary pedagogues Jacob Lateiner, Yoheved Kaplinsky, and Dorothy Taubman.
In July 2013, he attended the Warsaw Chopin-Górecki Piano Festival, giving concerts and attending master classes with eminent Polish pianists. There, he received an invitation from Prof. Anna Górecka to join her piano class at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. He studied for five years with Anna Górecka and pursued chamber music studies with Urszula Stańczyk. He also received important lessons from Andrzej Jasiński (teacher of K. Zimerman). During his studies he actively concertized, including concerti with Belarus First Radio Orchestra and recitals at NOSPR Katowice.

In 2018, he graduated with Distinction from the Academy of Music in Katowice (MM, Diploma). At his graduation concert he performed Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor alongside works of Szymanowski and Debussy. He continued studying at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz where he was a pupil of Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń (Artist Diploma). He then worked extensively with Maria João-Pires in Portugal and Andrei Gavrilov in Switzerland.
It was during this time that he participated in the Lithuanian International Chopin Competition in Vilnius, where he won First Prize and Concerto Award, leading to concerts in Europe and abroad. Following his Vilnius debut, he was called “a piano sound-colour magician” (Muzikos Barai). He appeared numerously with the Lithuanian Chamber Symphony and Cantus Orchestra playing concerti of Mozart and Chopin. In 2022 he returned to the Competition as a member of its Jury.

Author
and Scholar
Libraries have always been a great friend to him, and music research occupies him constantly.
His scholarly efforts have been recognized by such awards as Teacher Recognition Award (RTO), CFMTA National Essay Competition Prize, FRQSC Bourse du Doctorat, McGill Doctoral Excellence Fellowship, and grants from Canada Council for the Arts. His authorship credits include articles on filiation, piano literature, pedagogy, and history which can be found in Piano Magazine (formerly Clavier Companion), Canadian Music Educators’ Journal, and the Canadian Music Teacher.
Of special importance to him was research at the site of Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp on music in the Holocaust, culminating in an article about Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, cellist of the former Auschwitz Women's Orchestra. He considers the hours spent in conversation with Mrs. Lasker-Wallfisch a special honour.
He is the author of Górecki’s Solo Piano Music (Bloomsbury Academic). This landmark book highlights Henryk Mikołaj Górecki’s neglected piano works — including his fascinating posthumously-published pieces — through an integration of historical, analytical, and practical perspectives. It offers the first English translations of Górecki’s comments on his works and their contents.
