What students say...

Jarred Dunn’s deep understanding of technique, sound, and style made a powerful impression on me and I knew immediately that I wanted to continue working with him. So, I moved from my home in Chile to Montreal to study with him.
Under his guidance I have refined my playing and been accepted to McGill University for Piano Performance. This was a turning point in my development. Studying with Jarred has changed the course of my career and I now feel more focused than ever on the pianist I want to become.
Doctor Dunn is a superb teacher; in fact, I have never worked with a teacher so knowledgeable about music and the art form as a whole. Under his guidance I have completely reworked and begun perfecting my technique and artistry.
Dr. Dunn devotes his entire focus and attention in every lesson. His teaching is always incredibly inspiring. We discuss the form and structure of the piece at hand, its background, the composer, and the style. Then we go into detail-work, as specific as a single measure until it is absolutely perfect.
One of the main things I have learned from Dr. Dunn is how to practice and thus how to perform. He has provided me with many opportunities to perform and to work with renowned musicians.
I trust Dr. Dunn and his teaching implicitly. I am incredibly lucky to have him as my mentor as I prepare for graduate school auditions.
From the beginning I was inspired by his comprehensive, inspiring approach to teaching. His lessons are meticulously detailed and he has a remarkable ability to delve into the intricacies of each piece. He not only fostered my technical proficiency but also nurtured my creativity and encouraged me to find my own unique voice as a performer.
What sets Dr. Dunn apart is his unwavering passion for music and performance. His infectious enthusiasm is evident in every lesson and motivated me to push my boundaries and strive for excellence.
Dr. Dunn’s commitment to teaching extends beyond lessons. He actively seeks opportunities for his students to perform and fosters a collaborative environment by organizing masterclasses in which we can learn from esteemed teachers. Through these experiences, I have gained invaluable insights.
I have never studied with anyone who has such a comprehensive understanding of music or such an absolute command of technical possibilities as Jarred Dunn. Jarred combines insight with rare authority.
While I worked through the first book of J. S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier and the French Suites, he directed my attention to gruppetti, tiratas, Bach’s training in rhetoric, voice-leading, dance choreography, and a wide range of pertinent and helpful information.
He approaches technical issues with resourcefulness. “It’s easy,” he says, and he shows me how to break down a technical problem with specific movements, gestures, touch, or approach. Jarred hears everything — absolutely everything! — he diagnoses and solves problems with daunting accuracy.
Jarred possesses a genuine gift for teaching: he makes suggestions for improvement on a specific piece while giving glimpses of how much more there is to learn ... He inspires enthusiasm as much as he inspires a desire to emulate his playing. I count myself lucky to study with such a gifted pianist and sought-after teacher.
Prof. Dunn has been the most transformative teacher I have ever had. His guidance in technique and musical interpretation opened a world I never imagined — especially in Chopin.
For the first time, I understand what music truly could be and the essential techniques to express it. He helped me overcome technical barriers and led me to new artistic perspectives. He is the pivotal mentor in my musical life.
